Most shops already own what Fold POS needs: a computer with Chrome, a receipt printer and a card terminal. Below is what each kind of shop adds, what we recommend, and where to buy it.
The basics. Most shops already own these.
| Item | What it’s for | We recommend | Where to buy | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Computer or tablet with Chrome | Runs the POS at pos.foldpos.com | Any Windows PC or Mac from the last 5 years | Anywhere | Most store owners use Windows. Chrome gives the easiest printing. |
| Receipt printer (thermal, 80 mm) | Customer and store copies of every ticket; bag labels for plants | Epson TM-T20III | POSGuys · CDW · Walmart | USB model. Most Epson, Star and Bixolon receipt printers a shop already owns also work. |
| Cash drawer | Opens on a cash sale and on No sale | Any drawer that plugs into the receipt printer (RJ12 cable) | POS dealers, Amazon | The printer opens the drawer. You can switch this off per printer. |
| Card terminal | Taking card payments | The terminal you already use | Your processor | Fold records the payment; the card runs on your own terminal. Clover can be connected if you use it. |
| Internet | Everything is in the cloud | Any business line | Your provider | If the internet drops, the counter keeps taking orders and sends them when it’s back. |
Add a tag printer and a scanner.
| Item | What it’s for | We recommend | Where to buy | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Garment tag printer | One 1 × 3 in tag per piece: order, 1/3, name, due day, item | Bixolon SRP-275III with auto-cutter (SRP-275IIICOSG) | POSGuys · Amazon · Walmart | Impact printer: text only, no barcodes. Run Calibrate cutter once in Settings › Receipts. |
| 2D barcode scanner | Find a piece or an order by scanning its tag or ticket | Tera HW0002 (budget, wireless) or Zebra DS2208 (wired workhorse) | Amazon · Best Buy · CDW · POSGuys | Plugs in by USB and types into the scan box. No setup. |
For shops that send work in bags to a cleaning plant and track every piece. A drop store that already has a thermal receipt printer only adds a scanner and label sleeves. See how it works.
| Item | Who needs it | We recommend | Where to buy | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2D barcode scanner | Each drop store counter; each unpacking station at the plant | Tera HW0002 or Zebra DS2208 | See Dry cleaners | A busy plant needs one per station. |
| Thermal receipt printer | Any shop whose receipt printer is an impact printer | Epson TM-T20III | See Every shop | Bag labels print on the receipt printer. Impact printers can’t print the barcode, so drivers would have to type every code. |
| Bags with a label spot | Every bag that travels | Your existing laundry bags plus a clear sleeve or tag holder per bag | Packaging suppliers, Amazon | The printed label goes in the sleeve. |
| Numbered security seals (optional) | Shops that want tamper-evidence | Pull-tight plastic seals | Uline · Amazon (1,000-pack) | The seal number can be typed in when the bag is sealed. |
Nothing to buy. Drivers use their own phone with the Fold POS Driver app: routes, stops, proof-of-delivery photos and bag scanning with the camera. A phone mount for the vehicle is a nice extra.
Order these before you run out.
| Supply | For | What to order | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thermal paper rolls | Receipt printer (tickets, bag labels) | 80 mm (3 1/8 in) thermal rolls | Keep a case in the back. |
| Tag rolls | Bixolon tag printer | 3 in (76 mm) roll stock | Each tag is 1 × 3 in; one short blank strip per print job. |
| Ink ribbon | Bixolon tag printer | The ribbon cassette for the SRP-275III | Check the printer’s manual or the seller’s listing for the part number. |
| Label sleeves | Plant bags | One clear sleeve or tag holder per bag | Reused bag after bag. |
